Service Overview

Palm Tree Covering delivers Standard Mental Health First Aid training through a Licensed Mental Health First Aid Instructor.

The course equips adults with the knowledge, skills and confidence to recognise, understand and respond to another adult experiencing a mental health problem or mental health crisis.

Participants learn how to approach someone they are concerned about, have a supportive conversation, provide initial support and encourage appropriate professional and other supports.

Standard Mental Health First Aid is educational and does not train participants to diagnose or provide therapy.

What Participants Will Learn

Participants will learn how to:

Recognise signs and symptoms of common mental health problems
Recognise when a mental health problem may be emerging or worsening
Use the Mental Health First Aid action plan
Approach someone they are concerned about
Listen and communicate without judgement
Provide appropriate initial support
Encourage professional and other supports
Respond appropriately across a range of mental health crisis situations
Understand barriers to help-seeking
Apply appropriate self-care as a Mental Health First Aider

Delivery Options

Training is available for organisations and group bookings with flexible delivery options.

Standard Mental Health First Aid is a 12-hour course.

Delivery options may include face-to-face, blended face-to-face and blended online formats, subject to the delivery options Palm Tree Covering is authorised to provide.

All facilitated components are delivered by a Licensed Mental Health First Aid Instructor.

Accreditation

Participants can complete the post-course assessment to become an Accredited Mental Health First Aider (MHFAider). Accreditation is valid for three years.
